Versatile Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez has been offered to Inter Milan on a free transfer this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the Nerazzurri could see the 25-year-old as A Denzel Dumfries replacement.

Nandez is a player whose name has been linked with Inter in the past.

There were negotiations between Inter and Cagliari in the summer of 2021, for example.

At that point, Inter reportedly saw Nandez as a prospective replacement for Achraf Hakimi on the right flank following the Moroccan’s big money move to Paris Saint-Germain.

In the end, however, Inter did not sign Nandez. They instead signed Denzel Dumfries from PSV that summer.

That does not mean, however, that the links between Inter and Nandez evaporated altogether.

Cagliari Midfielder Nahitan Nandez Offered To Inter Milan

A key reason for the links between Nandez and Inter has been the Uruguayan’s versatility.

Nandez has proven adept at playing both in central midfield and on the right flank at Cagliari.

Inter could be in the market for a player in the latter role this summer.

The status of wingback Dumfries at the Nerazzurri is currently up in the air. The reason for this is that the Dutchman is out of contract at the end of next June.

Therefore, Inter’s plan would be to either extend Dumfries’s deal – or else sell the player this summer while they still have the chance.

And in the event that Inter sell Dumfries, they will certainly replace him.

There are several targets in this respect. Atalanta’s Emil Holm is one.

But according to the Corriere, Nandez is also an option on the table.

The Uruguayan’s current contract with Cagliari runs out at the end of June. And he is assessing his options for the future.

Already last fall, Nandez’s agent suggested that there were negotiations with Inter. But then Nerazzurri CEO swiftly dismissed these claims as out of place.

However, the Corriere report, Nandez’s representatives have still made clear to Inter that he would be keen on a move.

And from the Nerazzurri, the newspaper suggest, there could be an opening to the idea of replacing Dumfries with the Uruguayan.
